Why do I need to upload my ID in order to use acasaPay?

We need to confirm your ID in order to send money out into your bank account.

This ID check is known in the industry as “Know Your Customer” (KYC) and is enforced by financial security and anti-fraud regulations in the UK and elsewhere.

The first time either a housemate sends you a payment, or a refund is sent from a service provider back to you, your ID needs to be checked. Once approved, your account is upgraded and you don’t need to confirm your ID again.

We (acasa) do not review your ID ourselves; the document is forwarded securely to our payment provider (MangoPay) who review it. This process is automated. MangoPay then take anywhere from a few minutes to a few days to review and confirm (or reject) your ID. As soon as your ID is approved, you’ll get a notification (and any pending payments will be sent through to you). Your ID will be deleted from the acasa system at this point too.

To upload your ID, visit the “payment settings” area of the acasa mobile apps, or login to the website. A passport, driver’s license or national ID card are the best forms of identification – simply take a photo and upload it; we’ll do the rest.
